Cynthia Sundberg (BA ’94) graduated from the Honours Sociology program and looks back on her time at Laurier fondly.
“I was a Student Ambassador and LOVED giving tours of the "5 x 10" (minute) campus," she says. Back then, the underground tunnels to the library and science building were so “mysterious,” everyone loved the shortcut in the winter.” NOTE: One of the tunnels has since been closed off.

Since graduation, Cynthia has kept her connection with Laurier strong through volunteering. Cynthia is currently a board member on the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA), she was on the inaugural Dean’s Advisory Council for Arts, and for the last 6 years, has been an active member of the Laurier Board of Governors. She says that serving on these various committees gives her the opportunity to learn as much as she contributes, and that “every one of us has a leader within, waiting to grow, contribute, and make a difference.”
"I joined WLUAA as I was excited by the opportunity to give back in a way that would help future and existing alumni. I had no idea I’d be exposed to so many events, opportunities, and great people.”
What’s one thing about WLUAA that Cynthia wishes every Laurier alum knew? “That once you graduate, Laurier isn’t in your rearview mirror. It can continue to be a big part of your life if you wish. Your involvement can ebb and flow as your time permits. Just like when you’re a student at Laurier, as alumni, your inputs are your outputs and they can be as grand or few as you choose! Whatever is right for you.”
If you’re like Cynthia and want to keep your connection with Laurier strong, make an impact and get involved, then we encourage you to apply to join the WLUAA Board and we will be in contact to discuss opportunities.
