As my time as President of the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect and celebrate all that we've accomplished together.
First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to the incredible alum who make up your WLUAA Board. The tireless commitment and investment in Laurier have inspired me tremendously. It’s been an honour to work alongside such passionate and dedicated Golden Hawks. Thank you for all you give back to your alma mater!
Over the past few years, we’ve made meaningful strides in giving back to the Laurier community—something I’m incredibly proud of. Together, we committed over $1.7 million in philanthropic support to projects that reflect our values and strengthen the student experience.
A major highlight was our investment in Ansley Alumni Field, a project that not only supports Laurier’s Athletics and Recreation programs but also creates a lasting, visible symbol of alumni pride right in the heart of the Waterloo campus.
Beyond Ansley Alumni Field, we’ve supported scholarships, equity and inclusion initiatives, student development programs, and campus enhancements in both Waterloo and Brantford. These investments will continue to shape lives and open doors for years to come.
One of the true joys of this role has been meeting so many other alum at alumni events—from Jays games in Toronto, to gatherings in Calgary and London, to the buzz of Homecoming and the pride of the Awards of Excellence. Thank you for sharing your stories, your time and your Laurier spirit with me.
I’m thrilled to pass the torch to Candice Joseph (BA ’03), our incoming WLUAA President. Candice brings energy, insight and a deep love for Laurier. I can’t wait to see where her leadership takes your alumni association next. Congratulations, Candice!
To my fellow alum: I encourage you to stay connected and support Laurier in whatever way you can. Whether that means attending events, mentoring students, making a gift, or simply wearing your purple and gold with pride – every act of support helps shape the experience of future Laurier grads, and it’s a great way to pay it forward.
Thank you for allowing me to represent such an exceptional group! I’ll always be proud to be part of this amazing Golden Hawk community.
Stay Golden,
Kyle Walker
