With fall comes Homecoming celebrations! On Laurier’s Waterloo campus, it was a spectacular success. The sun was shining, the campus was brimming with purple and gold pride and our football team continued its winning streak! Then, a month later, we were together again to cheer in Brantford as the alumni team defeated the student extramural team in basketball at the Laurier Brantford YMCA.
I’m grateful that my connection with my alma mater continues to grow and evolve in ways I never imagined when I first accepted Laurier’s offer of admission.
Another recent highlight for me was attending the Awards of Excellence event in September. I had the distinct pleasure of hosting the awards ceremony and was thoroughly amazed by our alumni winners. These awards, which are handed out annually, aim to recognize some of Laurier’s most outstanding alumni and friends, and to celebrate the inspiring ways these members of the Laurier community are leading lives of leadership and purpose. From a Juno-award-winning musician to a number of trailblazing changemakers in their fields, this year’s recipients positively contribute to Laurier’s reputation in incredible and highly impactful ways.

As the volunteer President of your alumni association, I am also very proud to share news of the association’s most recent donation to Laurier. Funding for these important gifts is made possible through our GradVantages revenue generating programs with TD Insurance, Manulife and BMO Mastercard. Most recently, your WLUAA has committed $115,000 to assist on the Brantford campus with the Onkwehonwe:ne Indigenous Student Centre renovations, and we are donating $27,000 to help supply furniture and A/V upgrades to the RCE Brantford Circle Room.
If you’re curious about the work of your alumni association, as we represent Laurier alumni which has grown to be a community of more than 120,000 alumni who live and work around the world, you can read our annual report here
